Self-catering cottages situated in the unique Karkloof Mistbelt Forest, via a rural KwaZulu Natal setting.
- Small cottage “Chimes” sleeps 4 (2 bedrooms with a double bed in each, and each having en-suite bathrooms with bath, shower and toilet).
- Larger cottage “Ellem” sleeps 8 (3 bedrooms: 1 bedroom has a double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet, the 2nd bedroom has a double bed, and the 3rd bedroom has 4 single beds, including 1 bunk bed. There is a 2nd bathroom with bath, shower and toilet, and there is also a 3rd single toilet).
A minimum of 2 nights stay is required. The rate is R400 per person per night. No charge for children under 2 years old, if they are not occupying a bed. If you need more persons to stay, the space is very large as shown in the pictures. You are welcome to bring extra mattresses and bedding. We would then charge per person per night for this facility. Ellem has crockery and cutlery for 12 people. Chimes for 6 people.
Kitchens are equipped with a stove, microwave, toaster, kettle & fridge. There is also a beautiful portable braai. You do need to bring your own charcoal. The geyser is on gas, and there is a small gas cylinder and plate if there is load shedding. We have also just installed a basic solar system for the cottages and fireplaces! Please note the cottages are not serviced.
Day visitors are charged R50 per person. Please contact us for day visitor permission.
No pets allowed – this is important to preserve the pristine, indigenous natural environment.
- We also have an old “Hanger” that could be used for camping. It is a very large open space, with a closed in ablution area. Perfect for large groups who enjoy the rustic experience. Situated right next to the Mholweni River, and just down the road from our self-catering cottages.
- And for an even more rustic adventure, there is “Will’s Hut” up on top of the world – with the spectacular view of the beautiful Midlands, mystical natural Mist Belt Forest and Grey Mare’s Tail Waterfall, and majestically ‘guarded’ by Mount Gilboa. This very basic wooden hut is 4x6m, with a small water tank with rain fed water, and simple long drop. So, it is similar to sleeping in a cave – bring along all that you will need for a never to be forgotten get away!
